Atlas V

Atlas V is an active expendable launch system in the Atlas rocket family. It was formerly operated by Lockheed Martin, and is now operated by United Launch Alliance (ULA). Atlas V is built in 10 variants: Atlas V 401, 411, 421, 431, 501, 511, 521, 531, 541, 551. The first digit stands for fairing diameter in meters, the second digit stands for number of SRBs and the last digit stands for number of engines on the second stage. Atlas V 401 was used to launch few times Orbital ATK’s Enhanced Cygnus to International Space Station due to Anteres explosion investigation underway. Atlas V will be also used to launch crewed CST-100 Starliner on modified version N22 to International Space Station through Commercial Crew Development program. The vehicle operates out of Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Space Launch Complex 3-E at Vandenberg Air Force Base. There was also considered Atlas V Heavy _ which would put two addiational Common Core Boosters on the sides of the first stage.
